The San Jacinto College cosmetology department has recently expanded its esthetics program to the North and South campuses.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from students taking facial classes in esthetics,” said Dana Belt, cosmetology instructor at San Jacinto College South campus. “The esthetics courses go into much more detail than our facial classes and result in licensure through a written and practical exam.”
Belt, who has been a cosmetology educator for 25 years and taught the facial program for 15 years, has seen a rise in the esthetics industry with the popularity of botox and the raised awareness of skincare.
“With the industry growing so quickly, we decided to expand the program to reach more students,” Belt said.
An esthetician’s license can lead towards working in medical spa under medical doctors and provide services such as: topical skin treatment, beautification and skin care maintenance, cleansing and exfoliation of the skin and makeup application.
