In addition to the audio engineering program, San Jacinto College offers a Certificate of Technology in Music Broadcast Audio through a joint collaboration with Alvin Community College.

Broadcast technology includes the set-up, operation, and maintenance of electronic equipment for the transmission of radio and television programs, according to the Bureau of Labor statistics. Technicians also control audio equipment to regulate volume level and quality of sound during radio and television broadcasts.

San Jacinto College’s partnership with Alvin Community College creates a unique curriculum that blends audio engineering instruction with courses specific to working in the world of broadcast. Students receive hands-on training in recording, mixing, and special effects processing along with real exposure to the workings of radio and television stations.

“Students in the broadcast technology program get experience live and on-the-air on Alvin Community College’s radio station, 89.7 FM The Gulf Coast Rocker,” said Angela Beyer, professor of audio engineering at San Jacinto College. “These students complete their audio engineering courses at San Jacinto College and their broadcasting courses at Alvin Community College.”
